The Department of Automation and Control Engineering builds upon the first Institute, or respectively - Department, with expertise in Automatic Control, that originated in 1986 as part of the Faculty of Technology of the Technical University in Brno, then based in Zlin. Over the years, this institution has evolved and transformed itself into the current Faculty of Applied Informatics and the contemporary Department.
The Institute participates in the educational and research activities of the faculty in the fields of Automatic Control Theory from theory to real solutions for control systems. Specific solutions are especially oriented on secondary raw material processing technologies the control and management, which are also successfully developed and implemented.
The Department´s staff has been cited on a number of occasions for these activities for major awards (e.g. The Rolex Award, a Gold Medal at the Brussels Patents Exhibition, an Honourable Mention in the Siemens Awards, and an Honourable Mention in the "The Czech Innovation 2012" competition). The Institute is the recipient of a number of important scientific research projects.
In the education field, the department is the guarantor of the Information and Control Technologies, Automatic Control and Informatics and Integrated Systems in Buildings study disciplines, and shares in teaching in other study disciplines.
It currently has a total of 11 academic staff, including 3 Professors, 1 Associate Professor and 6 Senior Lecturers.
