Still Me: FHS Presents the Stories of Women with Breast Cancer
6. October 2026Pink October is also being marked this year by the Faculty of Humanities at TBU in Zlín. In cooperation with the patient organisation Bellis, the Faculty has prepared the exhibition Still Me, which explores breast cancer, prevention and life with the disease through the authentic stories of women who have experienced it themselves. The exhibition will be on display in the foyer of the U18 Educational Complex from 6 to 31 October 2026.
The exhibition is part of the activities associated with Pink October, an annual campaign raising awareness of the importance of breast cancer prevention and supporting women whose lives have been affected by the disease. Through photographs and personal stories, visitors will meet individual women and learn about their experiences. Their stories are a reminder that behind every diagnosis is a person – with their fears and uncertainties, but also their determination, hope and strength to move forward.
For the Faculty of Humanities, the exhibition is also significant in the context of educating future healthcare professionals. The Department of Health Care Sciences prepares students for non-medical healthcare professions, for whom the ability to see and understand the person as a whole, including their wider life circumstances, is just as important as professional knowledge. Authentic patient experiences can help future healthcare professionals better understand what a person goes through during illness. The topic is also naturally relevant to the Midwifery degree programme, which includes care for women and women’s health.
Every Scar Has a Story
The exhibition was created as part of the activities of Bellis, a patient organisation that has been supporting women with breast cancer during and after treatment for more than ten years. Bellis provides psychological and specialist support, rehabilitation and educational programmes, individual consultations and a space for sharing experiences. Since December 2025, Bellis has also been active directly in Zlín, where it has opened a centre for the Zlín Region.
Come and visit the exhibition at U18 this October and discover the stories of women who have experienced breast cancer. The exhibition is a reminder that even in difficult circumstances, a person remains first and foremost themselves – with their own story, relationships, plans and hopes.
