60. Zlín Film Festival

Also this year, Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU) is going to participate in the organization of Zlín Film Festival. The 60th edition of the Festival will be held on unusual dates due to the coronavirus pandemics, namely between 4 September and 10 September 2020. Several TBU Faculties will take part in the organization of the supporting programme.

One of the events through which the University will contribute to the programme of this year’s edition of the Film Festival is the award of the so-called “Star Doctorate”. According to Andrea Kadlčíková, Director of Marketing and Communications, “It is a nice and pleasant act. The award will be conferred by Prof. Vladimír Sedlařík, TBU Rector. This year, it will be actors Vojta Kotek and Jiří Mádl who will be presented with the award. The actual accomplishment for which the two actors will be awarded the “Doctorate” is still a secret.

Reputable artists, such as Jiřina Bohdalová, Lucie Vondráčková, Mahulena Bočanová, Tereza Brodská or Filip Renč have been presented with the award by TBU over the past years.

Safe with the Faculty of Humanities

The Faculty of Humanities of TBU in Zlín (FHS) has been involved in the preparation of the Zlín Film Festival supporting programme for a number of years. Also this year, the FHS will offer edutainment activities to the small and the young attendees to the International Film Festival for Children and the Youth and will be ready to provide first aid by means of health patrols, if need be.

Students of Preschool Teacher Training, Lower Primary School Teacher Training and Social Pedagogy have prepared an entertaining programme for children attending the Festival. This year, the programme is focused on children’s safety on the internet as well as on the prevention of risky behaviour, particularly on cyber bullying and bullying at upper primary schools and at secondary schools.

“The morning programme organized for schools and featuring workshops focused on particular topics that has achieved great popularity will also form part of the Zlín Film Festival 2020. The workshops will be held in TBU Educational Complex. Registration to the workshops takes place through a booking system,” describes Libor Marek, FHS Dean. The programme will move to Komenský Park in the afternoon and the activities will be modified and offered to the general public – families with children.

The FHS will get involved in the Festival also by means of health patrols made up of experienced students of the degree course in General Nursing. Their tent will be marked with a large red cross. International guests to the Zlín Film Festival will be accompanied by students of English for Business Administration, who will also provide translation and interpreting services.

Science and Technology

The Faculty of Technology will bring science and technology to the Zlín Film Festival. The Mysterious Laboratory and the Technology Workshop will open its door to attendees in the Peace Square (náměstí Míru). All the small scientists will thus have the opportunity to explore the world of science and technology. For the older scientists, the Faculty has prepared debates and screening of films featuring popular science topics in the Šapitó located in Komenský Park.

Mysterious Laboratory & Technology Workshop

Science will form part of the Zlín Film Festival also this year. The Mysterious Laboratory has been moved from the chateau park to the Peace Square (náměstí Míru). Children will have the opportunity to explore the mysteries of the environment, chemistry, polymers, food technology, and learn more about things that have impact on the environment in which we live and about the ways of improving the future of our planet. All those who are interested in robotics and technology will definitely find the Technology Workshop thrilling. They will have the chance to try out 3D pens, robotic shoulders, or to manufacture their own small wooden robots.

Science Café & Academia Film Olomouc

According to Michal Rouchal, one of the organizers of the supporting programme at the FT, “On the occasion of the Film Festival, we will kick off the autumn Science Café lecture series, which we have been missing since March. Thanks to the cooperation with Academia Film Olomouc (AFO), the popular science lectures will be interspersed with a high quality cinematographic experience blended with science. The AFO will provide us with pretty interesting films this year.”

Robotic Workshop

The Faculty of Applied Informatics will once again participate in the Festival by means of the presentation of a set of Koma modules “Dílny Robin”, that will be open to the attendees in the Peace Square (náměstí Míru).
