Associate Professor Jiří Vojtěšek Reappointed Dean of the FAI

March 2026The Rector of Tomas Bata University in Zlín has officially appointed Associate Professor Jiří Vojtěšek, Ph.D., as Dean of the Faculty of Applied Informatics for the 2026–2030 term of office. Associate Professor Vojtěšek will thus build on his previous four-year tenure at the head of the faculty, during which student numbers were stabilised, facilities modernised, and the institution’s international standing strengthened.
Associate Professor Jiří Vojtěšek has been closely associated with TBU since the beginning of his studies in 1997. At the FAI, he completed both his Master’s and doctoral studies in Technical Cybernetics, and in 2014 he successfully qualified as an Associate Professor in the field of Control of Machines and Processes. Prior to his first appointment as Dean in 2022, he served for eight years as Vice-Dean for Bachelor’s and Master’s studies. In his teaching and research, he focuses on operating systems, computer networks, adaptive control systems, and the modelling and simulation of technological processes. In his spare time, he enjoys sports and nature, and also serves as a volunteer firefighter.
The past term under Associate Professor Vojtěšek’s leadership brought a number of tangible achievements to the FAI, ranging from staffing stability to infrastructure development. Key degree programme accreditations were successfully extended, and the faculty secured the right to conduct habilitation and professorial appointment procedures. Under his leadership, the number of students increased to the current 1,622, while funding obtained from national and international projects grew, including participation in the prestigious Horizon Europe programme. The faculty environment itself also underwent visible improvements, with a new relaxation zone created for students and the lobby modernised.
Over the next four years, Associate Professor Jiří Vojtěšek intends to focus on the strategic reaccreditation of degree programmes in line with modern labour market and societal demands. To maintain a high standard of education and support student learning, the well-established and highly valued Mathematics and Programming Centres will continue to be developed. At the same time, plans include further nurturing talented students by involving them more intensively in robotics and programming competitions, as well as hackathons.
In the area of research, priority will be given to supporting project-based activities and the internationalisation of research teams, with the aim of ensuring their long-term financial sustainability. An important part of the faculty’s future direction will also be strengthening its “third role”, namely cooperation with the region and industry. The FAI is ready to actively contribute to the development of semiconductor technologies in the Zlín Region and to deepen partnerships with companies through its Industrial Advisory Board.
“We are not facing easy years ahead, but I am convinced that thanks to the expertise and cohesion I experience at our faculty every day, we will be able to move the Faculty of Applied Informatics forward once again,” concludes Associate Professor Vojtěšek.
