Beetlejuice Invades Zlín: Spooky Science at the Faculty of Applied Informatics
7. November 2025The Faculty of Applied Informatics of Tomas Bata University in Zlín will transform this Friday, 7 November 2025, from 13:00 to 20:00, into a place where science meets mystery and fun. As part of the traditional popularisation event Faculty of Ghosts, this year visitors can look forward to a brand-new theme titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetle, inspired by the world of the charismatic ghost.
The entire Faculty, including laboratories and the lobby, will come to life with numerous activities, blending science, fantasy and spooky experiments. “Visitors will have the opportunity to enter the House Where the Whisper Never Fades, take part in thrilling escape games, or embark on an escape route where they will complete tasks in various laboratories and get a sneak peek into their real-world operations,” explains Petra Svěráková, spokesperson for Tomas Bata University, adding: “For the youngest attendees, this year we are introducing for the first time the Cursed Chamber, offering a playful and slightly spooky atmosphere tailored for children. The Faculty hall will feature a variety of accompanying activities, including chemical experiments, motor skill tests, an UV colour show, skill challenges, a raffle and other interactive stations.”
The event is open to the general public, families with children, students and science enthusiasts who want to take a look behind the scenes of the Faculty in a way that’s different from the usual. Admission is free, but registration is required for participation in the House Where the Whisper Never Fades, the Cursed Chamber and the Escape Route. In addition, each hour there will be a free slot available for unregistered participants, so everyone can enjoy the atmosphere of the Faculty of Ghosts.
The event is organised by staff and students of the Faculty of Applied Informatics, along with volunteers from outside the university. Support has been provided by the Zlín Regional Authority and various partners, including Nestlé, Luxor, Levandulový Statek Bezděkov, TOBOGA Galaxie Zlín, Vitar Ltd., KOVOZOO Staré Město and more.
“The aim of the Faculty of Ghosts is to show that science can be not only useful but also fun and attractive. Every year, we try to surprise visitors with something new – this year, it will be a blend of mystery, light and experiments inspired by the world of Beetlejuice,” says Dr Stanislav Kovář, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Applied Informatics.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetle at the Faculty of Applied Informatics will offer a fun and spooky atmosphere, and unexpected surprises to all those who are not afraid to explore science in an unconventional light.
