Graduation Ceremonies Have Been Held in the Open Air

The graduation ceremony of the graduates of the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management of Tomas Bata University in Zlín has been held in a rather unconventional manner – without gowns, with face masks and in the open air.

On that day, the lifetime dream of approximately 180 Faculty’s graduates came true. They swore the oath and obtained their longed-for degree certificates, even though in different conditions than usual. The graduation ceremony was held in the patio of the former Jesuit College campus

“We followed strict hygiene measures during the graduation ceremony. Graduates had to wear face masks, they were only allowed to take them off to swear the oath and take over their degree certificate,” described doc. Ing. Zuzana Tučková, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty. “We also refrained from shaking hands,” she added.

“I am greatly delighted that the graduation ceremonies were held in this manner. After many years’ efforts, the ceremony was the sweet spot for the graduates, which they certainly deserve,” said Prof. Ing. Vladimír Sedlařík, Ph.D., Rector of Tomas Bata University in Zlín.

Maybe for the first time in the modern history of TBU in Zlín, the graduates were not allowed to wear gowns during the ceremony, and that due to hygiene measures. It was technically impossible to sanitize them and we did not have enough time.

“We feel sorry for that, but, on the other hand, we had the opportunity to wear beautiful dresses and suits,” said graduate Monika Hanáková with a smile on her face.

The original dates of the graduation ceremonies at TBU were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Only the Faculty of Technology managed to hold the graduation ceremony in July, the other Faculties had to reschedule the dates for autumn, because students took their final state examinations during summer. More than 1,800 graduates will leave Tomas Bata University in Zlín this year.
