Josef Kocourek Re-Elected as Dean of the FMC
4. April 2025Mgr. Josef Kocourek, Ph.D. has been re-elected Dean of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications of Tomas Bata University in Zlín. He was appointed to the position by the Rector of the University, Prof. Mgr. Milan Adámek, Ph.D., and from 15 April he will continue to head the Faculty for the next 4 years. He has been the Dean of the FMC since 2021.
“I appreciate the trust placed in me for the next four years,” said Dr Josef Kocourek, and added: “The Faculty has and will have great development potential and is important in terms of creative industries on an international level.” He has worked at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications for more than 19 years. From 2018, he held the position of Head of the Department of Marketing Communications until 2021, when he was elected Dean of the Faculty for the first time.
Josef Kocourek is a marketing and marketing communications expert. During his career he has specialized mainly in the field of brand building. He has managed various projects, including the Communications Agency, and has also been instrumental in the development of the Department of Marketing Communications, which focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of marketing communications.
During his previous tenure, the Faculty actively developed in various directions. “We have opened new studios, such as Jewellery Design or Game Design, which are in great demand among applicants, or the creative workshop ROBOTA, which offers workshops for students, graduates and the general public,” says Josef Kocourek. In addition, thanks to intensive international cooperation and an emphasis on the quality of results, the output of the Faculty’s creative artistic activities has increased by a third, which confirms that the Faculty is gaining recognition not only in our country, but also in Europe.
“It is necessary to focus mainly on the development of facilities, which is currently insufficient and hinders the development of the Faculty in terms of new specializations or degree programmes that would be of interest. Unfortunately, this also hinders the overall development of cultural and creative industries, which are important for Zlín and the Zlín Region. At the same time, we are planning two international degree programmes, which will help us to strengthen our position in international relations and I believe will also bring about a number of project collaborations,” he commented on his plans for the coming years.
