New Dean to Lead the Faculty of Multimedia Communications

The Faculty of Multimedia Communications of Tomas Bata University in Zlín will be headed by a new Dean, namely by Mgr. Josef Kocourek, Ph.D., current Head of the Department of Marketing Communications. He was appointed to the office of Dean by Prof. Ing. Vladimír Sedlařík, Ph.D., Rector of TBU, on 12 April 2021. Dr. Kocourek will take up the office after doc. Mgr. Irena Armutidisová, who has been heading the Faculty since 2017.

“I am greatly honoured to head one of the best arts-oriented faculties in the Czech Republic. The interconnection of arts, design, filmmaking and marketing communications is unique not only in our country, but also in the entire Central Europe. I will do my best to foster the interdisciplinary nature of the Faculty and to continue to increase the level of internationalization at the FMC,” Dr. Josef Kocourek, who will assume the office of Dean on Thursday 15 April 2021, commented on his appointment.

The new Dean Josef Kocourek has been focusing on brand building and on the creation of communication strategies in the long term. He has been heading the Department of Marketing Communications, which is one of the component parts of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications, for three years. Nevertheless, he has been working at the FMC for over 15 years, first as a lecturer, teacher, and then as the Head of Communication Agency, a practice-oriented course unit, which interconnects students in arts-oriented degree courses and students of marketing communications. Unique projects are thus created, which enrich the cultural life in Zlín.

The Faculty of Multimedia Communications was established on 1 January 2002. The Faculty comprises thirteen artistic studios, the Department of Marketing Communications and the Department of Theoretical Studies. The newest specialization has been offered at the Faculty by the Game Design studio since 2021. The studio was established in response to the rise in popularity of the gaming industry.
