New Lecture Hall and Classrooms Underway as TBU Undergoes Summer Renovations
15. August 2025Extensive construction and renovation works are taking place at all component parts of Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU) during the summer holidays.
The Faculty of Management and Economics (FaME) on Mostní Street is particularly busy. Classrooms are being refurbished, and a brand-new, unique industrial engineering laboratory is being created. The largest lecture hall at the Faculty, the Wichterle Hall, is also being completely renovated. Once completed, it will accommodate 186 students. “Students can look forward to modern presentation technology, improved acoustics, new projectors and touchscreens. One of the classrooms will feature an entirely new layout – round tables with built-in touch displays, allowing for an interactive learning environment previously unseen at the Faculty,” said FaME Dean Michal Pilík.
“Most of the work is expected to be completed by the start of the new semester in September. However, renovations to Wichterle Hall are more extensive, and students will return there in February 2026. The reconstruction will cost around CZK 35 million and is 95% funded by the Johannes Amos Comenius Operational Programme,” added TBU spokesperson Petra Svěráková. She also noted that further renovations to the Faculty’s entrance doors and lifts are planned before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, TBU is also constructing a new building for the Faculty of Technology. The original structure, built in the early 1930s as part of the industrial premises of the Bata company, had to be demolished due to structural instability. The new facility, costing over half a billion CZK, is expected to be completed in two years and will open for use in March 2027.
In preparation for the upcoming academic year, the university is also upgrading student accommodation and increasing bed capacity – including at the former Svit premises. Plans are also underway for a new student club and a multifunctional sports hall, which will support both teaching and sporting activities.
