Prof. Kayoko Yamamoto Visits the Faculty of Applied Informatics

The Faculty of Applied Informatics at Tomas Bata University in Zlín recently welcomed Prof. Kayoko Yamamoto, head of the Yamamoto Laboratory research team from the Graduate School of Information Systems at The University of Electro-Communications in Tokyo.

During her professional visit to the Department of Informatics and Artificial Intelligence, she discussed opportunities for further development of cooperation, particularly in the fields of systems engineering, the transfer of knowledge into the educational process, and its application in corporate practice. An important part of the discussions also involved expert collaboration with the research teams of Prof. Roman Jašek, which have long focused on systemic solutions for security and process continuity integrated into the security architecture of the Internet of Things (IoT).

During her visit, Prof. Yamamoto also toured the robotics laboratories and the TBU Technology Park. The programme also included discussions with Japanese students studying at the Faculty of Applied Informatics, focusing on their experiences with study, research and international academic cooperation.

The visit follows the long-term collaboration developed within the Berabot project and the presentation of advanced system identification technologies protected by patent, which were also showcased at the World Expo in Osaka. Expert discussions focused primarily on the further development of research in systems engineering, the integration of mobile technologies and cybersecurity, as well as the use of advanced methods of data analysis and modelling of complex systems in connection with the principles of secure software engineering.

The Yamamoto Laboratory research team also includes Prof. Shigeko Iwamoto and Prof. Hiroki Furukawa from The University of Electro-Communications in Tokyo. Their work focuses on interdisciplinary research using analytical methods, work with large-scale data and geoinformation data, mathematical modelling, algorithms and modern computational technologies. These approaches aim to address major global challenges of today, such as environmental change, crisis situations, and the development of a safe and prosperous society.

Prof. Yamamoto’s visit significantly contributes to strengthening cooperation between the Faculty of Applied Informatics and partner institutions in Japan and the United States. Joint activities create opportunities for further scientific projects, research placements for students and academic staff, and at the same time enhance the international reputation of the Faculty of Applied Informatics in the fields of modern information technologies, systems engineering and secure digital systems.

The mobility was funded by International Credit Mobility KA171 under the Erasmus+ programme.
