Regional Authority to Support Talent at the TBU Again

The Council of the Zlín Regional Authority has approved a subsidy of CZK 30 million for the TBU to support the second phase of its project dubbed “CIT for the Zlín Region – Creativity, Intelligence and Talent”. Authorised in February, the project focuses on developing the creative and scientific activities of doctoral candidates and those on such courses, thereby strengthening research capacities and expanding international cooperation.

The Governor of the Zlín Region, Radim Holiš, commented that “The University is a key partner for us. It goes beyond its role of educating young people by ensuring that the region has a sufficient number of qualified professionals for companies, hospitals and public administration.” The Deputy Governor, David Vychytil, added “Consequently, we’ve greatly strengthened our partnership in recent years from a financial perspective, as well as through the scope of joint activities. An agreement was signed on long-term cooperation with the University back in 2024.”

The second phase of the CIT for the Zlín Region project builds on the previous one, to which the Regional Authority also contributed CZK 30 million. This support assisted doctoral candidates and nascent researchers in their studies and in the transition to scientific practice. In total, 55 postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students received funding, 18 of whom came from institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad, while 7 worked at universities overseas. More than 100 scholarly publications have been produced so far, with almost the same number currently being prepared. The creative activity of the researchers involved is also notable, since they have already participated in more than 80 projects.

The TBU’s Rector, Milan Adámek, explained that as the project continues emphasis shall be placed on “ensuring that top experts begin their careers in the Zlín Region and remain here over the long term. The idea is to create attractive conditions for doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and academic staff, preventing a brain drain from the region. Other than sustaining the researchers already supported, we will be seeking out new talents in fields crucial to the future development of the Zlín Region.”
