SPE MiniTec 2023 Conference

The “Emerging Trends in Medical Plastics” conference, held for the first time in Central Europe, was organized by the University Institute of the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín in cooperation with the scientific company Society of Plastic Engineers based in the USA (SPE, The European Medical Polymers Division). It was held on 18-19 October 2023 on the premises of the Centre of Polymer Systems with the participation of more than 60 specialists in the field.

The main topic of the two-day conference was new trends in medical polymer research. The speakers included world-leading experts, e. g. prof. Austin Coffey and Dr. Siobhan Matthews from Ireland, Prof. Dr. Martijn van Griensven from the Netherlands, Prof. Vimal Katiyar from India, Prof. Radostina Alexandrova from Bulgaria, and others. Young researchers and Ph.D. students from Zlín had the unique opportunity to participate in expert discussions and personally meet world specialists in the field of medical polymers. The range of topics discussed was considerable. The main interest was focused on the topics of bone tissue regeneration, new possibilities for solving orthopaedic problems, the biocompatibility of polymers with tissues, targeted drug delivery, etc. During the second day of the conference, our young researchers also had the opportunity to present research topics addressed in Zlín.

A major contribution to the successful organization of the conference was provided by its chairperson, Assoc. Prof. Nabanita Saha; Head of Professional Communication, Dr. Nibedita Saha, and other members of the UNI organizing team.
