Students Help in Families and Children’s Homes

Students of Tomas Bata University in Zlín keep helping during the coronavirus pandemic. Students have lately been providing help in children’s homes; they teach classes in schools intended for children of professionals fighting on the first line against Covid-19; and give remedial classes in health professional’s families.

“Currently, 23 students give classes in children’s homes. The activities they carry out there are similar to the activities they do at school. They prepare online classes for children of various ages. They also give remedial classes and organize various afternoon activities,” said Adriana Wiegerová, Head of the Department of School Education of the Faculty of Humanities of TBU in Zlín.

The number of students of the Faculty of Humanities who offer a helping hand in teaching children keeps growing. At present, 123 students give classes in the schools intended for children of professionals fighting on the first line against the coronavirus disease, and in primary schools; approximately another hundred students help provide remedial classes and give online presentations. About 200 TBU students volunteer in hospitals as well. Another 70 students provide help in senior citizens’ homes and about 30 students work in the call centre when they assist with contact tracing.

“During the months of spring, Tomas Bata University produced thousands of litres of disinfectant solution, it started the production of nanomaterials; TBU employees as well as students sewed face masks and made protective shields. And we continue to help where needed. I greatly appreciate the ability of students to cope with distance learning and at the same time their willingness to provide assistance where required,” said Prof. Vladimír Sedlařík, Rector of TBU.
