TBU Academic Senate Elected Its Chairperson

On Tuesday 19 March 2019, the first meeting of the new TBU Academic Senate was held. The main point of the meeting was the election of the Chairperson of the AS and of the Vice-Chairpersons. Assoc. Prof. Martin Sysel was elected the Chairperson of the AS for a three-year term of office, Assoc. Prof. Michal Staněk was elected the Chairperson of the Academic Staff Chamber and Bc. Lukáš Koutný the Chairperson of the the Student Chamber.

The Academic Senate of a higher education institution is one of the bodies whose competences are provided for in the Higher Education Act.  The AS’s most important powers include, for example, election of the candidate to be appointed the Rector, approval of the budget of the higher education institution, approval of the proposal by the Rector to appoint members of the Scientific Board, approval of annual activity reports, annual economic reports, etc.

The term of office of members of the TBU AS is three years. The Academic Senate comprises 4 members of the academic staff and 2 students from each Faculty, i.e. a total of 36 members. The election of its members took place in February 2019. Meetings of the AS are open to the public.
