TBU Designer Has Designed Kits for the Olympic Games in Tokyo

Zlín-based designer and artist employed at Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Zuzana Oharek Bahulová, has designed the costumes for the Olympic athletes in Tokyo, namely for the German and Israel rowing teams.

The collection for the German rowing team consists of a vest, elastic trousers, T-shirt and jersey. The dominant motif of the collection is the eagle, in which bamboo is pictured. The bamboo is slightly covered by the German national tricolor flag. Zuzana Oharek Bahulová aimed to show the German’s respect for the Japanese symbolism with the motif of bamboo. The underlying colours of the clothing are white and black.

The Olympic kit for the Israel paralympic rowing team is based on the national colours, namely light blue and white.

It took more than a year to create the Olympic kits for athletes representing Germany and Israel, and the results had to be approved by the Olympic Federations of the said countries. Overall, these are the fourth Olympic Games to see fashion collections by Zuzana. The kit designed for the Jamaican female bobsledders ranked among the most famous ones.

This year, Zuzana Oharek Bahulová has also designed a fashion collection for the International Rowing Federation (FISA) or a personal collection for the reigning world champion in the men’s single scull Olli Zeidler. She also designs clothes for Olaf Tufte, famous Norwegian rower, or for the Hungarian and Slovak national team.

Zuzana Oharek Bahulová is a Czech designer, who is, at present, employed at the Footwear Research Centre of Tomas Bata University in Zlín as the Head of shoe design and construction. She has been awarded the degree of Ph.D. in animation and participated in a number of traineeships abroad during her studies, for example, at California Institute of the Arts, established by Walt Disney. She has won several awards with her projects, including the RedDot, German Innovation Awards and Global Footwear Awards. She has been selected to participate in 100 Marshall Memorial Fellowship 2021 and  Aspen Seminar for Young European Leaders 2021.
