TBU Donates Dozens of Computers to Schools in Ukraine
9. June 2026The Faculty of Humanities at Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU) has donated 60 computers and 87 monitors to schools in Ukraine. The equipment, although previously used, remains fully functional and will be delivered to the Zakarpattia region, where it will support teaching and learning activities for pupils and teachers.
The initiative aims to strengthen educational opportunities in a region that continues to face the challenges of the ongoing war. According to university spokesperson Petra Svěráková, the donated equipment will primarily be used in schools in the communities of Stavne, Svaliava and Kolochava, as well as in other educational institutions across the region. The computers will help improve learning conditions and ensure that children continue to have access to quality education and modern technologies despite difficult circumstances.
The donated computers and monitors had previously been used for teaching, administrative work and the daily activities of academic, administration and technical staff at the university. Preparing the donation required close cooperation between the faculty and its partner organisation, including the inventory, preparation and transportation of the equipment. The entire process took approximately ten weeks and was successfully completed thanks to the coordinated efforts of everyone involved.
“We believe it is important to ensure that equipment can continue to serve a meaningful purpose,” said Renata Šilhánová, Vice-Dean for External Relations at the Faculty of Humanities. “Given the current situation, supporting schools that are striving to maintain educational continuity under challenging conditions is particularly important. We hope this contribution will make a real difference to both pupils and teachers.”
The transport and distribution of the equipment will be carried out by the Association of Friends of Subcarpathian Ruthenia, a long-standing organisation dedicated to supporting the region. Petr Stavinoha, Chair of the Association’s Executive Committee, expressed his appreciation for the donation: “We are genuinely grateful for this support. Although we have worked with several educational institutions in the past, the scale of the equipment provided by the faculty is truly exceptional.”
The Faculty of Humanities has been involved in initiatives supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict. “As an educational institution, we feel a strong sense of solidarity with schools in Ukraine,” said Dean Libor Marek. “One of the key challenges has been helping refugees integrate into Czech society and supporting them in overcoming communication barriers, particularly through the development of Czech language skills.”
