TBU in Zlín to Liven Up the Film Festival Programme

Tomas Bata University in Zlín is going to participate in the International Film Festival for Children and Youth, which will kick off on Wednesday, 1 June 2023. TBU students will help with the preparation and implementation of the associated activities held throughout the town, either as part of their studies under the guidance of their teachers, or as volunteers. As now customary, the so-called Star Honorary Doctorate will be awarded.

The Star Honorary Doctorate will be conferred by Prof. Milan Adámek, TBU Rector, on actress Tereza Ramba and actor Jan Cina in front of the Grand Cinema. Since 2007, when the Star Honorary Doctorate was awarded by TBU for the first time, 20 film celebrities have received the award.

The Zlín Film Festival is intended mainly for children, thus presenting a great challenge for future teachers. Every year, students of the Faculty of Humanities (FHS) get actively involved in the Festival’s associated activities and organize original workshops for schools and families with children. This year, they have prepared fun things (handcraft workshops, workshops related to the Universe, for example) and an important prevention programme focused on the issue of identity theft, cyberbullying, risky communication and uncritical acceptance of information from the Internet.

In the FHS tent, located in the Komenský Park, counselling related to the prevention of children’s foot deformities and disorders will be provided in the afternoon. A children’s book focused on the issue of podiatry, which has been prepared at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications, will be presented.

As usual, medical surveillance will be provided by students of the Department of Health Care Sciences of the FHS.

The Faculty of Technology will once again open its Mysterious Laboratory. This year, children will have the chance to turn into a superhero. Two KOMA modules located in the Peace Square will be open on weekdays between 2pm and 7pm, and between 10am and 7pm on the weekend.

Live shots and broadcasts will be produced in the new Fenix multimedia studio of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications throughout the Festival week.

Catering services and the gastronomic programme will be provided by the TBU Refectory.

Students and employees of Tomas Bata University in Zlín will have the opportunity to join the bone marrow register in a stand located in Školní Street in Zlín.

“Anyone aged 18-35 can join the register, after previous consultation and completion of the prescribed form. He/she will collect his/her saliva using a mouth swab and submit the sample to the person in charge,” explains Zdeňka Wasserbauerová, long-term Czech National Bone Marrow Registry recruiter. Finding a matching bone marrow donor is a key treatment step for leukaemia patients.
