TBU Rag Day Welcomed More Than 4,000 Visitors

Stars of the Czech scene, a wide-ranging supporting programme and a sunny weather – that was the day of 5 May 2023 in Zlín. More than 4,000 visitors came to the park of the Bata Villa to enjoy the annual student celebration of spring – Rag Day, featuring performances by Marcell, Sofian, the singer Aiko and Paulie Garand, a former TBU student, with his band.

This year’s edition of the TBU Rag Day had good music, a great programme and sunny weather in store for more than 4,000 visitors. Tomas Bata University in cooperation with the TBU Student Union (SU) prepared an extensive music programme, whose tones could be heard throughout Zlín until late in the evening. As has become customary, entry was free of charge.

At the 11th annual festival, Paulie Garand, a former TBU student, gave a performance with his band. He reminisced about his student years in Zlín, saying he was happy to return as the crowd always gives him lots of energy back. Among other performers, we can name the singer Marcell, the young artist Sofian Medjmedj, the singer Aiko, the Robin band and DJ Nadja. She made the whole audience dance and surprised everyone with her original lyrics.

“My first time performing here in Zlín was in 2013, and since I was in charge of organizing the Rag Day in Olomouc, I really appreciate that such an event is held in Zlín, and made by students for students and is free. I was really enjoying it today and the people were great. Next year I would like to come again,” said Marcell.

The Rez band, winners of the University Band Contest, which takes place throughout the Czech Republic, also appeared on stage.

“The atmosphere is absolutely wonderful, the weather is beautiful and, especially, the people are great. Everything came together and for us it has been the best part of the tour so far,” said the singer of the band, Jaroslav Rez.

The festival atmosphere was enriched by a a wide-ranging supporting programme, comprising the King and Queen competition, TBU chill zone, photo corner and a bouncy castle for children. The festival also received a certificate from the Clean Festival project and could, thus, motivate hundreds of visitors to sort waste and live a more environmentally friendly life.
