TBU Representatives Discussed Inter-University Cooperation During Mission to Japan and Taiwan

In July, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation Prof. Ing. Marek Kubalčík, Ph.D., and Head of the International Office Mgr. Pavel Býček took part in an international mission to Taiwan and Japan, organised under the auspices of the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research (DZS). The aim of the mission was to establish new academic partnerships and strengthen cooperation with universities in these strategically important regions.

Taiwan is a key partner for Tomas Bata University in the field of international collaboration. TBU currently cooperates with nine institutions on the island and plans to expand its partnership portfolio further. “We witnessed significant interest from local universities in establishing cooperation. Most of them rank higher in international rankings than TBU, which presents both a motivation and an opportunity for us to grow,” said Prof. Kubalčík. In addition, the Czech Republic and Taiwan share similar historical experiences and focus on comparable strategic areas, such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

In Japan, the TBU representatives also attended the Expo 2025 world exhibition in Osaka, where the Czech Republic is prominently featured. TBU has left its mark here as well. Two interns from the Faculty of Multimedia Communications (FMC) are involved in organising the Czech Pavilion. The uniforms for the Czech Pavilion staff were designed by TBU alumnus Jan Černý, while FMC student Tomáš Maliňák created uniform designs for representatives of the European Union.

The highlight of the mission was participation in Czech National Day at Expo 2025, where the TBU delegation had the opportunity to meet the President of the Czech Republic.
