TBU Students Are Providing Assistance in Areas Affected by Tornado Activity

Students of Tomas Bata University in Zlín went to the areas struck by the tornado to help the locals and rescuers. They were asked to provide assistance by Prof. Vladimír Sedlařík, Rector of the University. Up to the present time, more than one hundred volunteers from among the students have signed up to help, and the number continues to grow.

Natálie Němcová, student of the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management, did not hesitate for a moment, she immediately responded to the TBU Rector’s request for help and went to Moravská Nová Ves.

According to Natálie: “It seems that there is more and more work to be done here. Now we are providing assistance to an elderly lady. She keeps crying day and night; she is very grateful for our help. It is very challenging here; when you are right at the site, only then can you realize the immense power of the tornado.”

This is an exceptional form of practice and valuable experience for the students of the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management, which organizes the assistance in the affected areas. In addition to cleaning, students also work, for example, in warehouses storing humanitarian supplies, they lend a helping hand to the overworked staff of the municipalities and provide assistance to the crisis management teams.

Zuzana Tučková, Dean of the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management, explains: “We are in constant contact with the Mayors of the affected villages; if they need help, we react immediately to their demand and send our students there. We will continue helping as long as it is needed.”

Some of the students and employees of TBU in Zlín also live in the villages which were hit by the tornado. Students who have been affected by this natural disaster may apply for extraordinary scholarship.
