TBU Suspends Classes and Announces a Period of Self-study Due to the Coronavirus Epidemics
10. March 2020Suspended classes, closed University Library, as well as partly limited operation of the University Refectory. These are the measured imposed today by Prof. Vladimír Sedlařík, Rector of Tomas Bata University in Zlín.
In the context of the increasing risks of spread of COVID-19, classes at TBU in Zlín shall be suspended with effect from 11 March to 22 March 2020.
“We have been carefully monitoring the development of the current situation – the period during which classes are suspended may be extended,” said Prof. Vladimír Sedlařík, Rector of Tomas Bata University in Zlín today. “Our University has almost 10 thousand students and employees, therefore, we want to behave responsibly,” explained Prof. Sedlařík.
For students it means that they will study at home by themselves. They are required to communicate with the University by phone or by e-mail only. At the same time, the TBU Library has been closed, and that both for students, staff and the general public “Moreover, we have changed the opening hours of the staff refectory and of the student refectory,” added Prof. Vladimír Sedlařík. This measure has been adopted by the Zlín-based university in accordance with the relevant measure imposed by the Ministry of Health on 10 March 2020.
In connection with the risk of spread of the disease caused by Coronavirus, Tomas Bata University in Zlín has introduced various measures last week, for example, a ban has been imposed on business trips of TBU staff and on international mobility of students to countries affected by the outbreak of Coronavirus, and the mobility of foreign employees and staff from such countries has been suspended. All conferences, sports and cultural events shall be cancelled until further notice. Classes held within the University of the Third Age have also been suspended.
