The Faculty of Humanities Has a New Dean

The Faculty of Humanities of Tomas Bata University in Zlín has a new Dean. Mgr. Libor Marek, Ph.D. was appointed to hold the post of Dean with effect from 1 April by Prof. Vladimír Sedlařík, Rector of TBU, and that in compliance with the relevant decision taken by the Academic Senate of the FHS that had elected Dr. Marek a candidate to be appointed as Dean with a term of office of four years.

Dr. Marek graduated in German and English philology at the Faculty of Arts of Palacký University Olomouc. At the same Faculty he completed a doctoral course in German literature. He has been employed at TBU since 2006. Between 2010 and 2011 he was a member of the Academic Senate of TBU and of the FHS as well. In 2011 he was named Vice-Dean for Pedagogical Activities. Last year, he became the Head of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures of the FHS.

The Faculty of Humanities was established at TBU in 2007. First Ing. Jitka Jašková was named interim Dean of the Faculty (January-March 2007). Afterwards, Prof. Vlastimil Švec (2007-11) and Assoc. Prof. Anežka Lengálová (2011-19) were elected as Deans of the FHS. The Faculty develops three main directions of education and research: Philology, pedagogy and health care. At present, the Faculty has approximately 2,000 students.
