University Research Meets Military Technology: TBU and Military Technical Institute Formalise Cooperation by Signing a Partnership Agreement

September 2026TBU Rector Milan Adámek and Military Technical Institute Director Jiří Kašpárek signed a strategic partnership agreement, opening up new opportunities for applied research through collaboration with a leading partner in the field of security development. Joint projects will focus primarily on cybersecurity and advanced protection against eavesdropping, with the aim of bringing innovations from the laboratory directly into practice. The signing ceremony took place at Tomas Bata University in Zlín on 16 September 2026.
The cooperation naturally stems from the shared interest of both parties in electromagnetic compatibility and cybersecurity. “Preventing the leakage of sensitive data through electromagnetic shielding and protecting against compromising electromagnetic emissions is one of the first specific areas where we see potential for future joint research and development activities,” said Milan Adámek, Rector of Tomas Bata University.
The agreement also opens up broad opportunities for future development in areas including information systems, simulation technologies, communication platforms and systems using artificial intelligence. “Cooperation with Tomas Bata University in Zlín provides an opportunity to combine academic knowledge and research with the practical experience of the Military Technical Institute. Our shared goal is to translate new knowledge into practical solutions for protecting sensitive information and strengthening the defence capabilities of the Czech Republic,” said Jiří Kašpárek, Director of the Military Technical Institute. In the initial phase, the primary focus of both partners will be on the secure management and protection of information transmission in the modern security environment.
For Tomas Bata University, and specifically its Faculty of Applied Informatics, this partnership represents a logical step and the culmination of long-standing academic and research activities. The Faculty has a strong foundation in the form of the Department of Security Engineering and the Department of Electronics and Measurement, where comprehensive security issues are addressed extensively both in teaching and applied research. “One of the key pillars of our partnership is the development of talented TBU students. By involving them in joint development teams and giving them the opportunity to work on real-world research tasks, we will enable them to significantly enhance their professional and research qualifications and strengthen their employability,” said Jiří Vojtěšek, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Informatics. Expanding these activities towards the defence sector is a natural continuation of the Faculty’s existing work, which includes the successful implementation of several projects directly supported by the Czech Ministry of the Interior.
The cooperation agreement has been concluded for a fixed term, until 31 December 2030.
