Zlín Regional Authority to Support Paramedic Education by Funding Launch of New Degree Programme at TBU

The Zlín Regional Authority will provide financial support for the launch of a new degree programme in Paramedic Skills at the Faculty of Humanities of Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU), a field of study previously unavailable in the region. For the 2025/2026 academic year, the university will receive CZK 3.038 million to fund tuition and programme development. TBU will use the funds, among other things, to secure teaching staff, drawing on experts from outside the university.

“Education of paramedics is both a priority and a current shortfall in the training of non-medical healthcare professionals in our region. This project will help address the ongoing shortage of paramedics in the Zlín Region,” said Radim Holiš, Governor of the Zlín Region, noting that 160 paramedics currently work in the region. “Their average age is steadily increasing, the number of emergency service call-outs is rising, and emergency departments, which also rely on these professionals, are continuing to expand,” he added.

Graduates of the Paramedic Skills degree programme will find employment in both pre-hospital and hospital care settings, including intensive care and emergency departments.

The concept for the programme’s accreditation was developed in collaboration between TBU and the Zlín Regional Authority. In 2024, the National Accreditation Bureau approved the programme, with accreditation valid until September 2029.

In May 2024, the Zlín Regional Authority signed a Long-term Cooperation Agreement with Tomas Bata University in Zlín, which includes the launch of this new degree programme.
