Synthesis and analysis of bioactive substances
This programme is taught in Czech only
Every drug starts with an idea. And the path from an idea to a medicine leads through chemistry.
Some molecules heal, others protect plants, and others find applications in cosmetics, the food industry, or biotechnology. But how do they originate? And how do we know they will work? That is precisely what the specialization Synthesis and Analysis of Bioactive Substances focuses on.
You can look forward to working both in the laboratory and with modern analytical instruments. You will synthesize new substances, determine their structure, and look for connections between how a molecule looks and how it behaves. Why does one substance work while another doesn’t? How can its structure be modified to make it more effective? You will seek answers at the intersection of bioorganic chemistry, pharmacology, and chemoinformatics—fields without which modern drug development and bioactive substance research are unimaginable.
Not all molecules will change the world. But some will. And those might one day be created right on your laboratory bench.
Career Opportunities: Pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnology industries, research and development centers, analytical and control laboratories, new product development departments, centers focused on biologically active substances, or academic research.
