TBU Succeeded in the Horizon Europe Programme, One of the Most Prestigious EU Programmes Aimed to Support Science and Research

Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU) succeeded in international competition – a TBU project was accepted for funding by one of the most prestigious EU programmes, Horizon Europe, which provides funding to research and innovation. Horizon Europe is not only the largest, but also (as referred to by the European Commission) the most ambitious research and innovation programme to date, with the potential to create a significant scientific, social and economic impact with a strong emphasis on the openness of science.

The project entitled Sustainable Horizons, which was approved in February 2022, was submitted to the HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ACCESS-05 Call and encompasses 10 universities not only from Europe, but also from Africa and South America. The coordinator is the University of Algarve (Portugal); TBU is a co-investigator that will, within the consortium, be responsible primarily for the area of economics, which will be implemented by a team at the Faculty of Management and Economics (FaME) under the leadership of Ing. Michaela Blahová, Ph.D. and Ing. Přemysl Pálka, Ph.D. and in cooperation with the TBU International Office, namely Mgr. Pavel Býček. The implementation of the project will start in September 2022, the implementation period of the project has been planned for 2 years.

“The aim of the project is to intensify long-term cooperation and spread excellence among the members of the consortium through the sharing of knowledge and expertise in various scientific and research areas (from technology, social science and economics to environmental sciences, hydrology or oceanography),” says Michaela Blahová. “Within the implementation of the project, a new doctoral programme will be created that will focus on sustainability in selected areas; an observatory supporting science and research will also be built, and a database of joint scientific outputs will be created,” adds Prof. Ing. David Tuček, Ph.D., Dean of the FaME.

“Grants funded by the Horizon Europe programme are considered to be among the most prestigious in the EU. Only excellent and original projects can succeed, and, therefore, we are very pleased that this project was successful in strong competition,” concludes Prof. Ing. Vladimír Sedlařík, Ph.D., Rector of TBU.
