TBU in Zlín Offers a Unique Course in Sports Flying
10. February 2026Tomas Bata University in Zlín will continue to offer its unique sports flying course in 2026. The course, designed for students and employees of the university, takes place on a two-seat ultralight aircraft and combines both theoretical and practical training. Participants are given the opportunity to experience pilot training under preferential conditions.
The course programme includes theoretical lessons focused on the basics of flight, meteorology, navigation, aerodynamics, flight mechanics and other key topics. The theoretical component represents an essential foundation for every future pilot and provides a solid framework for the subsequent practical flight training.

“Sports flying has quickly become one of the attractive activities that TBU offers to its students and staff. The course is exceptional in that it combines high-quality professional guidance with a real flying experience, while remaining accessible at a reduced cost,” said Mgr. Zdeněk Melichárek, Head of the Department of Physical Education at the Faculty of Management and Economics (FaME) at TBU.
Practical training is carried out at the training organisation of Aeroklub Luhačovice, z. s., at the public domestic airport in Luhačovice. Participants are guided by specialised instructors and experienced pilots, including aerobatic pilots and Czech national champions in gliding and other aviation competitions. The training also includes practical insights, recommendations and, above all, a wealth of stories from real aviation practice that complement the expert content.

After completing the theoretical part, participants proceed to demonstration and familiarisation flights with instructors on modern Bristell aircraft. These aircraft are highly regarded in the ultralight category for their high safety standards, comfort and more spacious cockpit, making them suitable even for complete beginners.
“The course represents an exceptional opportunity for both students and employees who wish to learn something new while experiencing the excitement of flying. We believe that such experiences support personal growth, the development of practical skills, and the ability to overcome challenges not only in practice but also in life,” added Prof. Ing. David Tuček, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for Strategic Development at the FaME of TBU, who co-developed the course in cooperation with the Aeroclub and has personal experience as a pilot in both ULL and PPL categories.
