What does this type of study comprise?
Study in a doctoral programme is, of course, aimed at the defence of the candidate’s doctoral thesis, at passing the final state examination and obtaining the PhD degree, however, the road to a PhD degree is quite different when compared to a Master’s degree.
At the beginning, you will select your supervisor, who will help you with your study and become your mentor during the whole period of your study. Together, you will then choose the specialization you want to focus on, and design your individual curriculum. Your curriculum can be designed in a manner suitable for you in terms of time and level of difficulty.
The job description of PhD students varies. It is predominantly comprised of the education itself (lectures and seminars), science (R&D and creative activities – your own research) and, if you are interested, you may decide to lead selected seminars or practical classes, i.e. teach future Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates.
During your study you will have an opportunity to participate in mobility abroad, almost anywhere around the world, and you will surely attend many specialized conferences in your field of expertise not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad, so that you will definitely not spend your time just sitting in your office or in the laboratory. Full-time doctoral students are also eligible for a regular scholarship.
