Statement by the University Leadership on the Funding of Public Service Media
27. October 2026The leadership of Tomas Bata University in Zlín supports the independence, quality and long-term stable and predictable funding of public service media in the Czech Republic. We regard Czech Television and Czech Radio as important institutions that contribute to public awareness, the development of critical thinking, education and the popularisation of science. We also consider their irreplaceable role to be important in the context of the mission of higher education institutions.
The leadership of TBU in Zlín therefore endorses the statement issued by the Presidium of the Czech Rectors Conference on 23 October 2026 and emphasises that any potential changes to the funding of public service media should be prepared transparently, on the basis of open expert discussion and with a thorough assessment of their impact. It is essential to safeguard the independence of the media and the conditions necessary for the provision of high-quality public services.
