Students Debated with the Governor of the Czech National Bank

On 17 October 2023, the Czech National Bank and the Faculty of Management and Economics of TBU in Zlín organized a CNB Discussion Forum with Aleš Michl, Governor of the CNB.

The event was held in the TBU Assembly Hall. In addition to Dr. Michl, the event was also attended by Jan Frait, Vice-Governor of the CNB, Jan Kubíček, CNB Board member and other prominent economists and guests from business.

“Monetary policy has worked so far. Inflation has fallen from 18 % in September 2022 to 6.9 % in September 2023. According to the forecast, disinflation will continue next year. It’s time to move on slowly and carefully. Whether or not we cut rates gently, slowly and prudently by the end of the year, we will remain hawkish – we will do anything we can to protect our country from another major inflation,” said Governor Aleš Michl during his speech at the beginning of the Discussion Forum, which was followed by panel discussions.

The first panel of the CNB Discussion Forum entitled “Monetary Policy and Return to Normality” was opened with a presentation by Jan Kubíček, CNB Board member, who discussed the topic with Petr Zahradník, member of the National Economic Council of the Government and economist at Česká spořitelna, and Stanislav Martinec, owner and managing director of KOMA Modular.

The second panel of the CNB Discussion Forum entitled “The Story of Czech Banking” was opened with a presentation by Vice-Governor Jan Frait, who debated with Pavel Kysilka, economist and former Acting Governor of the CNB, Martin Mikeska, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics at the FaME of TBU, as well as with students and other participants who could also ask questions online. In the afternoon, Governor Aleš Michl attended a meeting with Milan Adámek, Rector of TBU, and entrepreneurs of the Zlín Region, held in the building of the Rectorate and organized by the Association for the Development of the Zlín Region.
