TBU Mourns the Loss of Miroslav Zikmund

It is with deep sadness that we have received the news of the death of Mr. Miroslav Zikmund, one member of the legendary Czech couple of travellers of the 20th century, who has united his life with the town of Zlín. Mr. Zikmund has passed away at the age of 102.

Mr. Zikmund and his long-term friend and colleague Jiří Hanzelka significantly enriched and extended many spheres of human knowledge. They visited more than 80 countries, wrote more than 20 books and brought fame to the Tatra vehicles across the world. Mr. Miroslav Zikmund was awarded the honorary doctorate and the honorary degree of doctor honoris causa by Tomas Bata University in Zlín in 2014.

“In recognition of the courage with which he set forth in search of new knowledge and adventures along with his friend, meticulous studies and patient collecting of new information, as well as strong humane attitudes, by which he coped with ill fortune, he may be an example not only to students of the University in Zlín,” commented Prof. Sáha, Rector Emeritus of TBU.

Miroslav Zikmund will be greatly missed.
