TBU Publishes 2025 Sustainability Report: Discover What Has Been Achieved

Social and environmental responsibility are among the key priorities of Tomas Bata University in Zlín. The newly published 2025 Sustainability Report provides an overview of the university’s achievements, specific data and activities in the areas of education and research, operations and social responsibility.

The report builds on the TBU Sustainable Development Strategy to 2030 and shows how sustainability principles are being incorporated into everyday life at the university.

What can you find in the report?

📚 New courses and degree programmes

Sustainability is also becoming increasingly integrated into teaching. We have accredited the new Bachelor’s programme in Footwear and Fashion Accessories Design, focusing on sustainable production, while topics related to sustainable development are gradually being incorporated into almost 400 courses.

🥗 Gold for the Refectory for sustainable cooking

TBU Refectory excelled at the 2025 University Canteen Championship! In addition to finishing third overall, it took first place in the Sustainability category for a menu prepared using locally sourced ingredients, including young nettles and wild garlic.

🚰 Saving thousands of PET bottles

Thanks to LOKNI filtered water dispensers in five TBU buildings, students and employees were able to fill their bottles with free, high-quality drinking water, collectively replacing more than 130,000 single-use PET bottles, equivalent to more than 3.2 tonnes of plastic.

☀️ More green energy

A total of 594 solar panels covering an area of 779 m² are installed on the roofs of university buildings. In 2025, they generated more than 156 MWh of clean electricity.

🚲 Cycling to work and using shared bikes

A total of 94 employees in 35 teams took part in the May Cycling to Work challenge, cycling a combined 13,666 km. At the same time, the NEXTBIKE stations located at TBU buildings recorded more than 13,500 bike rentals.

🤝 Student life and community projects

Student associations such as TBU for Action on the Climate and Adopt a Plant are actively involved in university life. As part of their courses, students also carried out 64 socially responsible projects, ranging from helping at care homes for older people and animal shelters to events such as Let’s Clean Up Czechia.

💚 Wellbeing and support

More than 100 educational events and workshops were held throughout the year, focusing on mental health, stress management, psychological resilience and self-defence.

“We believe that through the joint efforts of university management, employees and students, we will continue to create an environment that is responsible towards society and the environment in the years to come,” says the TBU Sustainability Team.
