TBU Student Took First Place in My First Million Contest

Jakub Josef Forman, a student of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, took the first place in the “My First Million” contest (in the category “Higher Education Institutions”) with his FOODE mobile application. The app makes ordering in restaurants, bars and hotels easier. At the same time, it allows online orders and payment in a very short time. Jakub also won the Special Award by the ČSOB Bank worth CZK 5,000 plus another CZK 5,000 to be spent on the services provided by the Bank. The announcement of results took place in the Technology Innovation Centre in Zlín.

The 13th edition of the “My First Million” contest registered a record number of 111 applications in two categories as at the closing date, i.e. on 16 February 2020. Within the contest, which aims to promote entrepreneurial thinking in the Zlín Region, 54 projects from 16 schools were entered in the category of secondary schools. In the main category inviting projects by universities and the general public, the number of potential start-ups submitting their projects was as high as 57. In the course of the month of February, the expert jury selected the top 14, which their authors could develop during an eight-week acceleration programme while competing for attractive prizes.

The Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) is a joint venture of Tomas Bata University in Zlín and the Zlín Regional Authority. The Municipality of Zlín is also an important partner institution, which provides rooms for the TIC in the building 23 situated on the Svit factory premises. The TIC has been supporting start-ups in the long term, and that through various types of educational activities, and, moreover, runs a business incubator.
