University Chalet Portáš

History and Origin of the Lodge

The idea of building a mountain lodge in the Javorníky region, at Portáš – Kohútka, was conceived in the early 1970s by Assoc. Prof. Dušan Charvát, the father of Olga Charvátová, an Olympic medallist in alpine skiing. The construction of the lodge, originally called “Technoložka”, began in 1971 and was mainly carried out by volunteers, including employees and students from the Faculty of Technology.

After the establishment of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, the lodge transferred ownership from the Faculty of Technology at the Brno University of Technology (VUT) to TBU itself. Since then, the lodge has served as a recreational facility for students and employees of all faculties of TBU.
