Summer Season
The Javorníky Mountains are the perfect destination for hiking and cycling in the summer months.
A ridge trail suitable for both hikers and mountain bikers passes directly by the lodge. Heading east, it leads across Malý Javorník, the Stratenec lookout tower, and Velký Javorník, continuing on to the popular tourist area of Kasárna. To the west, the route runs via Papajské sedlo all the way to Makyta.
Between Karolinka and Vsetín, there is a new cycle path that follows the River Bečva. Thanks to its flat terrain, it is ideal for families with children.
In summer, there is also an opportunity for swimming within 10 km of the lodge, near the village of Karolinka. The local artificial lake, created by gravel mining, is surrounded by beaches. The area features restrooms, a snack bar and a beach volleyball court. (Source: www.turistika.cz)
You can also visit the popular tourist village of Velké Karlovice, home to a traditional Wallachian wooden church and the Karlovice Museum of Wallachia.

Winter Season
The TBU’s lodge is located directly on the ski slope, which is part of the Kohútka Ski Centre. This resort offers a full range of pistes – from easy blue slopes for children and beginners to a challenging black run served by a four-seat chairlift. A ski school and equipment rental are also available.
There are several other well-known ski resorts nearby, including Vranča, Karolinka, Kyčerka, Machůzky, Soláň and, across the Slovak border, Lamže.
Cross-country skiing enthusiasts will find a groomed trail just a few metres from the Portáš Lodge, following the Javorníky ridge for a total distance of 18 km. The route mirrors the summer hiking trail.
The Beskydy Cross-Country Skiing Route also runs nearby. It starts in Velké Karlovice, continues to the Makov Pass, and then branches off in several directions.
