Cost of living

The cost of living in the Czech Republic is lower than in the old member states of the European Union.

A student needs approx. CZK 8,000 – 10,000 (EUR 300 – 400; USD 360 – 450) per month to cover the basic costs, such as catering, accommodation and transport. The amount depends on individual needs, requirements and the standard of living of each student.

At a restaurant the average price of a meal is around CZK 120 (EUR 4.70; USD 5.40); in the student canteen the price is usually CZK 40 to 50 for a meal (EUR 2.00; USD 2.30). Food costs may be lower or higher, depending on your personal choice about where and what you eat.

Monthly public transport ticket for students over 26 is CZK 190.00 (EUR 7.50; USD 8.60)

Monthly public transport ticket costs CZK 380 (EUR 15.00; USD 17.00)

One way ticket to Prague (by train) costs CZK 275 (EUR 10.80; USD 12.40)

Petrol (Natural 95): 30 CZK/litre (EUR 1.20; USD 1.40)
